EVENT DETAILSThe heartfelt intimacy of Frederic Chopin’s compositions has captivated audiences for generations. His fusion of Polish and French musical characteristics, his unique improvisatory compositional style, and his songlike, melodic touch lend his works an instantly recognizable character.
The Mazurkas, Op. 59, showcase Chopin’s reverence for the Polish dance form, injected with an innovative use of harmonic modulations and textural effects, traversing scenes of haunting suspense, familial warmth, and fiery passion. Chopin’s nocturnes are perhaps his best known melodies, and his Barcarolle is a monumental undulating structure based on the rocking ostinato of a Venetian gondola song.
Chopin’s Third Sonata is a testament to the composer’s versatility and virtuosity, encompassing the full gamut of musical and pianistic expression. Cast in four movements, its listeners alternately experience its melodic grace, sprite-like lightness, and feverishly dramatic intensity.
This concert is dedicated to the memory of Bernard and Miriam Misbin, and we are deeply grateful to Dr. Robert Misbin for his support of our concert season.
