Furiant and Flamenco

Furiant and Flamenco
$65.00

The opening concert of our third season of performances highlights the passionate folklore elements of Spain and Bohemia, fused within the classical forms and textures of Turina and Dvorak for piano, violin, and cello.

Turina’s work blends Andalusian folk elements with French impressionist styles, integrating fiery flamenco melodies with the smooth harmonies of Ravel and Debussy. “Circulo” consists of three miniatures depicting the gradual illumination of the textural landscape at dawn, the joyful dances of midday, and the calm embrace of twilight. Turina’s second piano trio likewise emphasizes colorful Spanish musical idioms within Classical structures with Romantic melodic lines.

Dvorak’s Dumky Trio is in six movements, each a heartfelt homage to the music of his homeland. Bittersweet longing, nostalgic pining, and a specific Czech flavor of tranquility alternate with the “furiant” folk dance of the era, finishing in a bombastic display of virtuosity and passion.

PLEASE NOTE

The price of your ticket includes hors d’oeuvres and drinks from the open wine and beer bar at receptions before and after the concert and during intermission.
