Commemorating the bicentennial of Beethoven’s death in 1827, this concert marks the start of several performances in this great composer’s honor. Beethoven’s first opus hails from 1795, when the young man was revolutionizing the musical scene in Vienna; his formidable keyboard technique, inspirational compositions, and fiery personality seemed to know no limits. Within a few short years however, his budding deafness began to threaten all he held dear - his career as a pianist, his friendships, and his own sanity. Beethoven wrote a letter, the “Heiligenstadt Testament” in 1802 expressing the pain, despair and desolation resulting from his deafness, yet resolving to move forward, knowing that he still had much beauty to offer the world. His Piano Trios Op. 70 were written in 1808, in the same village of Heiligenstadt, a monument to his stoicism and even joy in the face of adversity.
PLEASE NOTEThe price of your ticket includes hors d’oeuvres and drinks from the open wine and beer bar at receptions before and after the concert and during intermission.
